Inktober 2016: Day 14, "TREE"

"Inktober" is a drawing challenge where you're encouraged to draw something in ink every day of the month of October.

There is an official list of prompts to assist in inspiration:

My sister, who illustrates children's books and is a far better artist than I, approached me to see if I wanted to "collaborate" with her on this Inktober journey.

After some discussion, we agreed that I'd create a "prompt sketch" based on the Inktober prompts and she would create the finished drawings.

I start the drawing, she finishes the drawing.

The results have been very surprising!

Is this my favorite? It could be. Definitely a personal dialogue between me and sis, through illustration. "Grease 2" and "Omnibot 2000" could not be more 80s for us.

Cracked iPhone Screen

This iPhone 6+ is my first and only iPhone. I was really trying to get the one with the largest HD space at the time but it was near impossible, so I eventually relented and got the second largest HD. It's been great. I wish I could take an unlimited amount of video without worrying about space, but it's been great.

And then this past Thursday night, I dropped it on the ground as I was heading home. Not even the worst drop -- but it somehow hit a sweet shatter spot and the screen blossomed with cracks.

My first shattered screen.

Are iPhones designed to shatter if you own them too long?

Because honestly, the new 7's are out and I went home to investigate how much it would set me back to upgrade to a 7. Turns out, it would cost me a FUCKLOAD, esp. to upgrade to the model I'd want, 52 days short of my upgrade eligibility.

Fortunately, there is an entire industry out there to fix cracked iPhone screens.

In fact, there were so many I wasn't sure which one to use.

This ended up being the perfect place:

iPhone Screen Repair Expert NYC.

Good as new. Better than new. Saved me a ton of money.

Drinking with Larry David

Thursday night, I had drinks with my current boss who looks uncannily like Larry David.

We were at a "Celebrity Bartending" benefit event in the East Village -- so people were already on the lookout for celebrities.

Okay, so when I first started the job, YES: I immediately noticed the resemblance and I honestly at first thought that the actual Larry David was playing a character in the show. But working with him day after day, I forgot that he looks like Larry David.

It's hanging out with him in public where it becomes obvious what he has to go through on a daily basis.

As we entered the bar, he said to me -- with dread -- "It's starting to happen already..."

I didn't know what he was talking about at first but then he clarified, "I see them looking at me..."

Indeed, we were holding court at a small table in a corner -- in this hip east village scene filled with young hot millennials -- and all these eyes kept stealing glances at this older gentleman chatting with the tattooed Asian guy.

I had to leave a little early and my boss walked me out. On the way out, TWO PEOPLE mustered up the cajones to approach my boss...

"Excuse me, I don't know if anyone's ever said this to you but..."

My boss was already shaking his head.

I acted as a dutiful entourage member: "No, it's not him, he gets it all the time...!"

As I left, I felt the social POWER of being the friend of a (fake) celebrity...
