Nigel the cat is no more.
He has ceased to be. Bereft of life. He rests in peace, he has kicked the bucket, hopped the twig, bit the dust, snuffed it, breathed his last, and gone to meet the Dark Lord of Kitties in the sky... and I guess that we’re all thinking how sad it is that a cat of such talent, of such intelligence should now be so suddenly spirited away before he’d had enough fun.
Well, I feel that I should say, “Nonsense. Good riddance to him, the freeloading bastard!"
As someone who looked after Nigel on more than one occasion, Nigel did NOT suffer strangers kindly. It is not a secret nor an exaggeration to state that Nigel and I were not on speaking terms for the last few years. Each time I visited the Cohen Compound and chanced upon exchanging a glance with Nige, I could see the seething contempt in his eyes. Those eyes that seemed to say, "Who let you in here again?"
But he was Dave's most constant companion. It was Dave who plucked this stray kitten from the slums of the Upper West Side and raised him to be proud of both his feline and Jewish heritage.
Nigel was loved and Nigel loved. He leaves behind a family who will always love him.
Nigel, the dark prince, has a posse. Rest in peace, old boy.
